STEP 1
You will need a console cable to be connected to the port labelledconsole
This port accepts RJ-45 cable, on the other side you will have a DB9 typeof connection and if you can't plug it into your PC then you will need a converterto a USB.
After connecting the cables, you will need to make sure that the powerplug is plugged into the switch.
STEP 2
If you have windows XP
Go to start >> All programs >> Accessories >>communications >>>hyper terminal
A local information window will show up click cancel, and then you will haveother two dialogs telling you are you sure, tell them yes.
Now you will have another dialog box asking you to name the connection. Putyour desired name in the text field labelled Name.

Another window will show up after you discard the local information windowasking you how you would like to connect to the switch
If you are not using a USB converter
In the connect using field select COM1 then another window will show up clickon Restore Default then ok.
Now you are in the switch
If you are using a converter then you would find other COM ports in theconnect using field try different ones until it works.
