Exam-Pack 70-630: TS: Windows SharePoint Server 2007, Configuring: highlights for each video:
VIDEO #1: INTRODUCING MOSS 2007 This introductory video sets the stage for the rest of this series. In it we answer the question: "What exactly is SharePoint?" In addition, we review SharePoint version history over time (to give us historical context), list ways in which SharePoint addresses common collaboration problems in business and describe the Microsoft certification exam that maps to this course.
VIDEO #2: PLANNING FOR MOSS 2007 Thoughtful planning is crucial to a successful SharePoint deployment. In this video we examine Microsoft’s recommended SharePoint management models. We then take a long look at the different farm and server topologies we have available to us when deploying SharePoint in a production environment. Finally, we examine enormous interoperability that exists between SharePoint and the 2007 Office system applications.
VIDEO #3: INSTALLING MOSS 2007 In this video we step through a clean installation of MOSS on a Windows Server 2003 computer. Before we do so we thoroughly review the Microsoft-supported SharePoint installation models, paying special attention to hardware and software (system) requirements for operating a SharePoint farm.
VIDEO #4: BUILDING MOSS 2007 SITES PART I The first video in this two-part pairing introduces us to the relevant SharePoint terminology. To be sure, a particular and sometimes confusing nomenclature exists in the SharePoint administration world. In this video we will also perform post-installation tasks, including configuring the Shared Services Provider (SSP) Web application and our port 80 Web application.
VIDEO #5: BUILDING MOSS 2007 SITES PART II The second video in this two-part pairing demonstrates how to create subsites and additional site collections in SharePoint. Your implementation will probably contain more than one Web site; therefore, this video is chock-full of practical and useful information. We also deal in this video with the Self-Service Site Creation feature and the best practice methods for removing sites from your Web applications.
VIDEO #6: MANAGING MOSS 2007 SECURITY Some folks make their living doing nothing other than IT security. For the rest of us system administrators, security is one of many hats we must wear as professionals. In this video we come to understand and work with the SharePoint security model. Creating SharePoint groups, managing permission levels and granular permissions -- it's all here. We also demonstrate how to encrypt SharePoint traffic with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption and how to extend a Web application to build an extranet.
VIDEO #7: ADMINISTERING MOSS 2007 SITES PART I In this video we begin to address components that exist only in MOSS and not in WSS 3.0. First we examine SharePoint personalization and security trimming. We then take a long, hard look at how we can leverage Single Sign-On to provide our users with seamless and secure access to data sources that reside outside of SharePoint. Finally, we learn how features work and how to deploy them in a SharePoint site collection.
VIDEO #8: ADMINISTERING MOSS 2007 SITES PART II In this video we continue the SharePoint administration journey we began in the last video. Here we concern ourselves with managed path configuration, administering site collection quotas, and how to scale out a server farm. The topics in this video embrace common "bread and butter" topics for SharePoint administrators as well as provide excellent review for the associated Microsoft certification exam.
VIDEO #9: WORKING WITH LISTS AND LIBRARIES Lists and libraries form the primary data repository for any SharePoint site. In this video we walk through how to create and maintain various types of SharePoint lists and libraries. Moreover, we discuss document versioning and show how to help both administrators and users keep track of their documents in SharePoint. Finally, we customize the behavior of SharePoint lists and libraries by defining metadata columns and custom views.
VIDEO #10: WORKING WITH WIKIS, BLOGS, AND WORKSPACES SharePoint is sometimes defined as a "corporate MySpace." In this video we learn about some of the more social networking-oriented features of SharePoint: wikis, blogs, workspaces, and the document center template. All of these features are intended to enhance collaboration and make it easy for SharePoint users to learn more and to easily find colleagues and document/list item data from within their SharePoint-based intranet.
VIDEO #11: IMPLEMENTING COLLABORATION FEATURES At its most fundamental level, SharePoint is both a Web site provisioning mechanism as well as a collaboration technology. In this video we discover how to manage user profile data in SharePoint. We also consider audience targeting, which allows us to present data only to members of certain SharePoint or Active Directory groups. Finally, we come to understand the vital importance of SharePoint taxonomy by learning how to define a Site Directory site in our SharePoint intranet portal.
VIDEO #12: IMPLEMENTING CONTENT POLICIES Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and Web Content Management (WCM) are both big business nowadays. In this video we learn how to implement ECM and WCM in SharePoint. We cover content-deployment jobs, Information Management Policies, and Information Rights Management (IRM).
VIDEO #13: MANAGING CONTENT TYPES Content types form how new data and list items are created in SharePoint sites. In this video we undertake a detailed consideration of what content types are, how to create them, and how to use them in practical situations to improve document and item consistency, relevance, and accuracy throughout our SharePoint site collections.
VIDEO #14: IMPLEMENTING WORKFLOW Windows Workflow Foundation (WF) is new with the .NET Framework 3.0. Because MOSS is built on the .NET 2.0 platform, we can leverage workflow (defined as the path a SharePoint document or list item takes as it passes through the stages of a business process) to improve our company’s efficiency and make strides toward the so-called "paperless office." In this video we learn to use both SharePoint’s built-in workflows, as well as custom workflows we can create by using Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007.
VIDEO #15: DEPLOYING BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE Like the aforementioned WCM and ECM, business intelligence (BI) is a popular IT industry buzzword nowadays. In this video we learn how to capitalize upon SharePoint’s native BI functionality. For instance, we will build BI dashboard pages, implement Excel Services, create Key Performance Indicator (KPI) objects, and leverage the Business Data Catalog to securely "pipeline" line of business data from external data sources into a SharePoint site.
VIDEO #16: IMPLEMENTING INFOPATH FORMS SERVICES In this video we understand how to deploy InfoPath Forms Services and SharePoint Server in order to support browser-based interactive user forms. By the end of this video you will have a bit of experience with the InfoPath 2007 application (a wonderful tool, if I do say so myself) as well as the SharePoint tools to support IFS.
VIDEO #17: ADMINISTERING SEARCH AND INDEXING What point is there to making a SharePoint intranet site collection available to your users if those users are unable to find the resources they are looking for? In this video we consider how to establish an accurate and high-performance search and indexing schema for SharePoint. Specifically, we come to understand SharePoint search architecture, create a Search Center site, configure search parameters, run user-mode content and people queries, and monitor the SharePoint search service with an eye toward performance optimization and accurate troubleshooting.
VIDEO #18: MANAGING MOSS 2007 DISASTER RECOVERY Disaster recovery, or DR, refers to being able to recover data and/or their relevant applications in the event of a deletion or other catastrophic event. In this video we begin with a lesson on using the SharePoint Recycle Bin, which provides a nifty first line of defense for recovering deleted content. Next, we learn how to back up and restore SharePoint sites by using the Central Administration Web application, the STSADM command-line tool and Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007.
VIDEO #19: UPGRADING FROM SPS 2003 TO MOSS 2007 Many companies have already bought into a previous version of SharePoint. Now they’re wondering: what’s the easiest method for upgrading to MOSS 2007? In this video we first analyze the Microsoft-supported upgrade paths from Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server (SPS) 2003 to MOSS 2007. Then we demonstrate use of the SharePoint Pre-Upgrade Scan Tool and perform an automated in-place upgrade.
VIDEO #20: MONITORING MOSS 2007 We know that a good backup strategy is only as good as the system’s ability to regenerate a meaningful restore. The same reasoning applies to good monitoring practices in SharePoint; they’re only as good as the administrator’s diligence in checking log files and server performance metadata. In this final video of the series we examine the various subsystems that make up the SharePoint architecture and determine which monitoring tools make the most sense -- given the data that we need to review for performance tuning and/or troubleshooting purposes.
