3750E Access Switches
Catalyst 3750E Switch Stacking Configuration
A switch stack is a set of up to nine Catalyst 3750E switches connected through their StackWise ports. One of the switches controls the operation of the stack and is called the stack master. The stack master and the other switches in the stack are stack members. The stack members use the Cisco StackWise technology to behave and work together as a unified system. Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols present the entire switch stack as a single entity to the network.
Stack Member Software
It is highly recommended that all stack members run the same IOS version, failure to do so, may result in stack protocol incompatibility issues.

Stack Master and Backup Master
The ‘switch priority’ determines which stack-member will become stack-master. The ‘switch priority’ range is configurable between ranges 1-15. The switch with the highest decimal value shall become stack-master. However, if an existing master switch is reloaded (or becomes unavailable), the 2nd highest priority switch assumes the stack-master role.
The ‘new’ stack-master will continue the role unless it becomes unavailable or rebooted/power-down.
The standard will be to set the priority of 1st switch (top one) to the highest value "15", then one lower to "14"and so on.
Use following command syntax to set the priority:
Switch (config)#switch 1 priority 15
Changing the Switch Priority of Switch Number 1 to 15
Do you want to continue?[confirm]
New Priority has been set successfully
Switch (config)#switch 2 priority 14
Changing the Switch Priority of Switch Number 2 to 14
Do you want to continue?[confirm]
New Priority has been set successfully
Switch (config)#switch 3 priority 13
Changing the Switch Priority of Switch Number 3 to 13
Do you want to continue?[confirm]
New Priority has been set successfully
