Intel reveals 'Claremont' Near Threshold Voltage Processor

Justin Rattner, the firm's chief technology officer, just took the stage here in San Francisco in order to showcase a trifecta of new concepts, all of which were borne out of research in Intel Labs. The first, and perhaps most notable, is the Near Threshold Voltage Processor (code-named "Claremont"), which relies on novel, ultra-low voltage circuits that dramatically reduce energy consumption -- like EnerJ, but not. How so? Well, by "operating close to threshold, or turn-on voltage, of the transistors," it's able to scream when needed or scale back dramatically (below ten milliwatts) when the workload is light. If you're curious as to just how low that is, we're told that it's low enough to keep running while powered only by a solar cell the size of a postage stamp. Sadly, the research chip isn't destined to become a product itself, but Intel's hoping that the knowledge gained could lead to "integration of scalable near-threshold voltage circuits across a wide range of future products, reducing power consumption by five-fold or more and extending always-on capability to a wider range of computing devices."The chip is an experimental Pentium CPU and ran on a PC with the Linux operating system. The CPU worked in conjunction with concept DDR3 memory developed by Micron called Hybrid Memory Cube, which is seven times more power-efficient than current DDR3 memory.Today's CPUs operate several times higher than the threshold, said Shekhar Borkar, an Intel researcher, during the on-stage demonstration. At low thresholds, the CPU dropped not only power consumption, but also performance. On full power, the CPU operated 10 times faster.The company's goal is to deliver a 300-fold improvement in energy efficiency in high-performance computing over 10 years. To illustrate the point, Borkar said that today's servers need about 200 watts of power for 100 gigaflops of performance. The company wants to drive the power consumption down to 2 watts.

خلال مؤتمر IDF للمطورين لشركة أنتل للعام 2011 كان هنالك استعراض تقنية Eyefinity من شركة AMD في جناحها AMD Fusion Zone والمكونات هي خمس شاشات مربوطه بتقنية Eyefinity وهي تعمل تحت أمرة معالج FX ذو 8 أنويه والمذهل معالج رسوميات واحد فقط وهو Radeon HD 6990 و4 شاشات مربوطه من خلال منفذ DisplayPort ماعدا الشاشه الخامسه من خلال منفذ DVI وفعلا الأمر مذهل !

مع دقة التصنيع 22 نانو أنخفض مستوى أستهلاك الطاقة بنسبة 50% عن 32 نانو !
ترانسيستور SoC الموجود في دقة تصنيع 32 نانو يمكن ضبطه على أداء عالي يا أما مستوى أستهلاك طاقة قليل فقط
سوف تنتقل الشركة من 32 نانو إلى 14 نانو خلال الثلاث سنوات القادمة
