If ICMP is a "packet" then the whole process of proxy arp would apply in HostA pinging HostB
wouldn't it?
https://www.cisco.com/warp/public/105/5.html
I find pass4sure answer is also incorrect. According to what cisco has provided in theory of Proxy ARP.
Dynamic ARP Cache Entries: These are hardware/IP address pairs that are added to the cache by the software itself as a result of successfully-completed past ARP resolutions. They are kept in the cache only for a period of time and are then removed
1. Indeed, once the host A pings Host B, it will store that in Host A cache.
2. Since Router by default DON'T forward broadcast it will act on or reply on behalf of Host B with the Fa0/0 Router1 own hardware address.
3. Arp cache are just mapping on how to reach devices & since Host A has pinged Host B it will store :
- IP address of Destination Device
- Mac Address of Router1 Fa0/0
Just a cut down version of proxy arp diagram
